Hello all,

Now that the flood (well, if you can call 15 people a flood) of
subscribes is ebbing, I thought I might introduce myself and give you a
brief history of CVS/MVS. Don't worry, I'm not a chatty person so this
will be your only interruption for this blather.

I started porting CVS to run on USS on MVS several years ago while
working for Candle on their Roma product. After almost getting
everything working, I found that Jeff Trawick (trawick@us.ibm.com) from
IBM and a couple of interns had also started on a port. At that point,
Preston Bannister volunteered to merge the two ports. Since then, I've
merged in changes for CVS 1.11.0. Several years have passed and I'm no
longer in the employ of Candle but now working for MQSoftware. Although
MQSoftware uses CVS/MVS I'm afraid my primary duties here don't get me
into MVS much anymore, so I'm afraid I've been a bit lax in my duties to
CVS/MVS.

At this point, I have "the official" CVS/MVS in a CVS repository on my
home system but I only have minimum time to support it. I did set up a
web page a while ago as well as this mailing list.

At one point, I would like to merge the CVS/MVS changes back to the CVS
trunk, but since CVS is a mature product, they have been hesitant to do
so unless there is a large number of users needing it. At one point,
I'll set up a user registration database so we can keep track of those
actually using it.

That's about it. Hope you get a lot of use out of CVS/MVS.
