Thanks for all the additional info!
=20
It's sounding like supporting DB2 file system natively is going to be
tricky???
=20
I've also heard mention of a java CVS client - but no real stories of
anyone using it on AS/400...
=20
At least this gives me a solid starting point - thanks!

We use CVS on windows to check out to an AS/400 IFS
share. Basically, we're SMB mounting the IFS filesystem, and then using
WDSC (WebSphere Developer Studio Client) to build the files. You can
also use ixlc/ixlclink on the 400 from a QP2TERM window or xterm. PASE
is a little odd, it's an ASCII AIX environment running natively on the
same processor as OS/400, with some sort of passthrough so it can access
system facilities. I've had odd things happen in PASE (you can just
pick up an AIX 5.x binary and run it in PASE), but Os/400 V5R2 is much
better than V5R1 or any of the V4 releases.

Any idea on if and how CVS works on the AS400, and
whether PASE helps?

		Wayne,
	=09
		Thanks for the reply!
	=09
As for the AIX suggestion, I've had some feedback from
the OSS400 list (open source software for the AS/400) and they've tried
the AIX:
	=09
		From Martin Rowe:
I have had a brief try with the AIX 5.2 version of CVS
running in PASE but
hit a bunch of errors, which I think were be code page
or ASCII/EBCDIC
related. I haven't yet had the chance to take it
further, but it might be
worth pursuing. I've not heard of work on a native
version :(
	=09
So I think that's a no - but if your friend has had more
success I'd like to know where I could get some more information.
	=09
My company has various partnership arrangements with IBM
- so we could probably get some time on a machine to try some things,
but I'd like to leave that until I've got a little more knowledge.
	=09
What is the cross compiler you are using? Do you or
other people do any testing? What are the compatibilities between
iSeries and AS/400 - they both run OS/400 do they?
	=09
Thanks again for the reply and for taking the time to
improve CVS!

I've never run it native on an as400. We've always run
it on a PC and run the cross compiler.=20
	=09
AFAIK, it would work on the ifs, but since it uses
stat() I would be supprised if it ran on a DB2 fs.
	=09
One of my co-workers is working with a tool that will
run AIX binaries on the AS400. Maybe that would do it.
